Shanagolden History Trail with Joe Ryan

In June our 5th/6th class children enjoyed a historical walk of our village guided by Joe Ryan. Beginning at our school which was opened in 1943, the children learned of stories relating to the past in connection with Shanagolden. From recounts of Captain Tim Madigan during the War of Independence,to the importance of the Creamery, the Dispensary, Catholic Church, Shanid Castle and the Elizabethan Village Square. The walk highlighted the changes that have taken place in our village throughout its history but also reminds us of how the past continues to influence how we live in the present day in Shanagolden. Special thanks to Joe for making the trail so enjoyable and interesting for all.
